Meet Cara
Over 30 years of experience in yachting taught us one thing
Finding the right crew is not about ticking boxes. It is about understanding people.
That philosophy has guided every placement we have made. Cara started as a stewardess/deckhand on a 68ft sailing yacht and finished as Purser on 75m+ motor yachts, so we know these roles from the inside — not from a job description.

Cara is highly organised, knowledgeable about her clients and market, incredible at maintaining communication throughout the process end-to-end, and balances professionalism and warmth perfectly. She brings an "old school" professionalism back to the industry, which has been missing for many years.

Common questions
Which yacht crew positions do you recruit for?
Every department on board: deck (captain, chief officer, bosun, deckhand), engineering (chief engineer, second engineer, ETO and AV/IT), galley (head chef, sole chef, crew chef) and interior (purser, chief stewardess, steward/stewardess). Both private and charter yachts, permanent and seasonal.
Where do you place yacht crew?
Worldwide, with most placements across the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Regular work also comes from Florida and the wider United States, and from yachts based in the UK and Northern Europe. Cara Lees Yacht Crew Ltd is registered in Scotland.
Does it cost anything for crew to register?
No. Registering as crew is free, and it always will be. Under MLC 2006, a recruitment and placement service cannot charge seafarers a fee for finding them work. Crew are never invoiced for placement.
How is a small crew agency different from a large one?
You deal with one person who has read your CV or your crew brief personally. There is no account manager rotation and no database dump of loosely matching profiles. Fewer candidates are put forward, and each one has been spoken to directly.
What does temperament-based matching actually mean?
Qualifications get someone considered; personality decides whether they last. Alongside checking certification and references, the process looks at how a candidate works under pressure, how they handle conflict, and how they will sit with the crew already on board.
Are you MLC 2006 compliant?
Yes. Cara Lees Yacht Crew operates in line with the Maritime Labour Convention 2006, which governs how crew are recruited and placed. A Statement of Conformity is published on this site, alongside the crew terms and conditions and a complaints procedure.
