For Captains
Reliable Recruitment, With a Personal Approach
We know what a working crew dynamic needs, because Cara has lived it on board. You get candidates who fit the team you already have.
Why captains work with me
Temperament matters as much as tickets
Certification tells you someone can do the job. It tells you nothing about whether they will still be on board in four months.
With over 30 years of experience working on yachts, across both deck and interior, we know how quickly one wrong hire changes the atmosphere on a boat. So the questions we ask candidates are about how they handle pressure, how they deal with conflict, and how they will sit alongside the people you already have.
References are taken by phone with previous captains, not read off a page. If someone left a boat badly, you will hear it from us before you meet them.
What you can expect
- A brief taken directly from you, not filtered through anyone else
- A small number of candidates, each spoken to individually
- Honest feedback where a role is hard to fill, rather than volume
- Discretion on confidential replacements
- Follow-up once the new crew member is on board
Frequently asked
Common questions from captains
Can I be involved in choosing my own crew?
Yes, and it works better that way. Captains who pick their own team get better retention. You see the candidates, you run the interviews, and you make the call.
How quickly can you cover an unexpected departure?
Mid-season departures are handled as a priority. Realistic timing depends on the role and the season, and you will be told honestly rather than promised a number that cannot be met.
Do you handle confidential replacements?
Yes. Replacing someone who is still in post is common, and it is handled without the current crew member or the wider market becoming aware of it.
Will you take a brief directly from me rather than the owner?
Yes. Most briefs come from captains. You know the crew dynamic, the programme and what will not work, and that is the information that actually matters.
